Very sorry to learn of your troubles. But, it was good for me. I learned about your blog, and have spent the last couple of hours scrolling down and reading some of your posts. Very good!
It was odd weather here too (Illinois), very dry and cool all spring, and everything was very late sprouting. I hand carried a lot of water this year.
Thank you for the wonderful compliment! We also hand carried a good bit of water, but I began to fret about the health of the pond so we just stopped irrigating altogether. I did the math on using the well and for a few reasons it would not have worked out very well, so we just let nature take its
course.
On the glass half full side, all the infrastructural improvements were still good investments. The
mushroom soil wasn't well utilized without water but the mass of it is still there. The subsoiling and terracing and shaping was good work that wasn't undone by weather. The fence is unaffected and is always a good investment. More than half of the trees planted are still alive (I hope). Either way I will still utilize the space better each year as I learn the land and the possibly new climate patterns. Education isn't free!
Edit: I'll bring some eye candy here for folks that I know love this stuff - also need to figure out the picture posting so bear with me
