I have had an intermittent relationship with this blog over the last 8 years, and have recently been able to prioritize time to write along with time to exist here on these forums. I am starting a couple permaculture-minded projects here, and will be using the blog to document them going forward. If it would be okay with the permies staff and benevolent dictator, I would post the links here for relevant project update posts.

Important note - I created this blog specifically to remain anonymous, so I am trusting that the 'be nice' dictum will translate to visitors to the site from these forums respecting my desire to remain anonymous there.

New post comparing agricultural articles from pre-Green Revolution and post-Green Revolution.

Progress or...?

Separate from anything on this blog, I've been prepping since last fall to start a market garden this year. Things are coming along quite nicely and according to plan so far, but now that I'm getting into the parts that I don't enjoy (sales and marketing - Facebook - Ezra's Garden) I'm having to consider linking my public business to the blog. Things in my life have changed and I'm looking to finally monetize my sustainable ag journey (16 years later), and I want my customers to be able to understand better what my gardening style is and what my sustainability goals look like. It would mean the end of anonymity and less privacy over all, but it could also mean better customer loyalty and engagement without me having to repeat myself as much. Any thoughts from others who are currently engaged in ag sales as part of their permies journey?

Post on how this year has gone. In summary - horribly.

But lots of pretty pictures! Eye candy!

Very sorry to learn of your troubles. But, it was good for me. I learned about your blog, and have spent the last couple of hours scrolling down and reading some of your posts. Very good!

It was odd weather here too (Illinois), very dry and cool all spring, and everything was very late sprouting. I hand carried a lot of water this year.

Thank you for the wonderful compliment! We also hand carried a good bit of water, but I began to fret about the health of the pond so we just stopped irrigating altogether. I did the math on using the well and for a few reasons it would not have worked out very well, so we just let nature take its course.

On the glass half full side, all the infrastructural improvements were still good investments. The mushroom soil wasn't well utilized without water but the mass of it is still there. The subsoiling and terracing and shaping was good work that wasn't undone by weather. The fence is unaffected and is always a good investment. More than half of the trees planted are still alive (I hope). Either way I will still utilize the space better each year as I learn the land and the possibly new climate patterns. Education isn't free!

Edit: I'll bring some eye candy here for folks that I know love this stuff - also need to figure out the picture posting so bear with me
