Summary

Summary prepared by Marianne Cooper

Paul is joined by Samantha and Kyle. Kyle points out that every plant has a use and a purpose. He notes the importance to him in the identification of genus and the characteristics whether eatable, apothecary, utilitarian, tool etc. Paul notes it’s importance especially in places with limited plant diversity like Alaska. The author, shows "patterns" of plants and the importance of being able to identify eatables, medicinal, poisonous, utilitarian etc. Further discussion ensues about the found ability, via this book, to walk into any landscape and quickly discern what can be used for what purpose. The pictures and drawing in the book easily illustrate the identification of plants and as a result, their purpose and usefulness.

The conversation turns to the plants dubbed "illegal" because of their invasive nature and the frustrations associated with authorities dictating the elimination of such plants.
