No picture (not really worthy of one, I suppose), yet this seemed the best thread for putting this down.

A few minutes ago, I found Paul at his computer, in his office, with bits of sawdust in his beard. (He'd been using the chainsaw earlier.)

paul:  I seem to be decorated with sawdust! It's like glitter, or sparkles, only--
me:  --only more manly!
paul:  next I'm gonna rub some bacon grease on me! [in a deep, ridiculous voice:] Hey, baby!!

Edited to add:  there might have been a "hubba, hubba!" next, but I was walking away. (Hahaha!)

(Yep, I totally went out and took the apple the kids had been eating and used it for this picture--and then planted it!)

"When you eat an apple, put the seeds in your pocket. Plant the seeds
when you see a spot. An apple a day could result in cutting your
carbon footprint 100 tons per year." -Paul Wheaton

I thought I'd play around with some more styles for the apple seed meme...

Another meme, this time featuring this quote:

"50% of your petroleum footprint and 35% of your carbon footprint are tied to your food. Grow a garden"

I'm struggling to find a great picture for this meme--anyone have any pictures they think would fit it better? Thanks!!!

(Edit: Added another version)

I like to call sawdust - man glitter.
I saw that on a meme somewhere.

Looking at the steampunky pictures in this thread, I thought this picture would be a perfect fit for the "Try 100 things. Two will work out. But you never know in advance which two." quote. (I've seen this quote as try 100 things, 2 will work out and you never know in advance which 2, as well as try 100 things. 2 will work out and you never know in advance which 2). So I made both versions!

This was a bit addictive, but I should stop now! This Ted Talk picture was just begging for a quote, and there was one right in there to paste in!

(Here's the Ted Talk in case you hadn't seen it yet!

Hi there Nicole,

I love all these quotes / this thread.

How can I be more IT savvy?
Surely we need to share these on social media?
But how do I/ we capture the image/quote?
Do we just do a selective screen shot?

or is there another way to copy and paste....... to post.
For the world to share around and around, and hopefully learn to make changes for the betterment of our global village?

Hi Joyce!

I'm not sure about how to do this on a mobile phone (maybe someone who has one can chime in on them), but if you're on a desktop computer, all you need to do is right-click on the image and either "copy image URL" or "copy image." I know that, on facebook, you can just copy a picture by right-clicking on it and clicking "copy" and then hit "paste" when you get to facebook. I'm not sure if the same applies to other social media platforms, though (maybe someone else knows?)

If you need screenshots, I can make some for you!

Just finished the PT draft and was struck by:
  • Paul Wheaton in "Permaculture Thorns" wrote: I think that if a person obsesses about gardening long enough, one possible result is that the obsession grows into permaculture.

  • Same page, a few lines down:
  • Paul Wheaton in "Permaculture Thorns" wrote:Perhaps we can say that permaculture is the act of trying to solve everything with extreme gardening.

Almost three years ago, I was reading Zach's bootcamp thread, and I Paul said, "Machines help us do more, but experience less." This has reverberated around my brain for the past few years, and with the advances in AI, I just had to make a meme!

I couldn't decide the right format or background image, so I've made a few:

Then I thought, since AI has me thinking about this quote so much, I'd ask AI for it's take. I asked an AI chat bot for the font, and a free AI art generator for the background image, and here's what we get:

I think the creepiness of the AI generated image kind of adds to the meaning....
