Summary

If you already have dreams for your land, don't bring Paul in. Peeing on the lawn might be too much for you. Wheaton eco-scale. if you don't know what level people are at, you can't give them advice at the appropriate next level. Sepp doesn't like rich people, as he feels that he can't talk to them. It’s painful to give advice to people who don't want to hear it.  Alexia likes to be the wild garden auntie who advises at a kitchen garden scale. If Sepp is given free rein, he transforms into a paradise. But if a level 2 person hires him it ain't gonna be pretty.

Soil analysis means basic advice can be given to greatly improve results. Common sense stuff which isn't always apparent to people but it can develop in time. She really loves people. Natural teacher - can't not teach. Ends up saying the same thing over and over as people keep asking the same questions. Hence the permies.com forum, podcasts, video and book. Paul, however, is only a certain-people person who doesn't believe in common sense - different knowledge base. Outdoor observation time gives a common frame of reference, developing into 'common sense'. Calibrate to reality.

How to start community and minimise drama?  Build own connection-to-themselves practices - deal with your own crap first. Then work on communication tools and share with and appreciate people. Gratitude. Boundaries.  Farm grandmas have a superpower to make a house into a home, humbly. See what needs doing and do it. Alexia aspires to be one. 20-year olds, on the other hand, tend to be different.  You need to tell them what to do, then they tell you why it won't work (see the pig bucket problem linked below). Label things. After two years they become extended family.

Can I ask whereabouts you live? I'd be interested in learning some skills. I'm in Washington state so if you're far from here maybe you know someone closer to me? I'm just about to begin building a home and would like it to be as earth-friendly and independent as possible as I approach old age (I'm 61 now). Any thoughts or advice from anyone are welcome. Thanks

Truly Alexia Allen sounds like she's a permaculture millionaire. I always learn so much when she and Paul get together to chat.

I was her plaything! And so was this tiny ad:
