Summary

Paul Wheaton meets up with Mike Haasl and Ash Jackson to discuss the Badge Bits for the sand badge in animal care.

With everything needed to get PEP-1 certified having been up for over a year, the goal is for version 0.99, maybe even 1.0 to be done by the end of the year.  About a dozen people working on this, most of which are Permies staff. About 80-100 people have already done a BB, expect a couple of hundred people to have at least one by the end of the year.  If you have a 2 week quarantine, you can do 40 BBs quite easily. Paul thinks there should be some sort of differentiation between high and low quality BB submissions, and people that earned a badge solo vs someone who got one from a course.

In the third week of October, there’s a free BB 20 event at Paul’s place.  Only requirement is that you have completed 20 BBs – even the GAPper fee is waived.

SKIP is an advancement over the university package.  Designed to take advantage of the internet and omnipresence of phone cameras and the ability to make it all free. Any skip program has to have higher standards, so work might well take three times as long.

BBs:

Build a bat-house
- Satisfy the nesting needs of bat species in your area, protect the bats from rain
- It must be mounted in a location conducive to bat nesting (height, orientation to sun, etc.)
- Natural wood and steel/wood fasteners (no glue, plywood, stain, paint)

Build an insect hotel
- Facilitate at least three different critters
- Do a halfway decent job of protecting them from rain (bearing in mind that some sorts of critter like a bit of wet)
- Only natural materials and steel/wood fasteners (no glue, plywood, stain, paint)

I think that outlining the higher standards for PEP/SKIP and the rationale behind those standards would be useful further down the line. Mostly, I think that doing this would hopefully reduce the questions of "why can't this be done?" at the individual BB level of discussion.

I do not think that PEP Court should ever be free.

I think people need to follow what has been outlined/created or buy into a resolution process.  You (Paul) along with a handful of people have dedicated way too much time in the creation of this project to also facilitate disputes without the other party putting some skin in the game.
Perhaps a refund if they "win" their case or a 50% refund if they justify altering the bb requirements.
Making it free incentivizes making claims

But why do you have six abraham lincolns? Is this tiny ad a clone too?
