Summary
Paul, Jen and
Josiah round off their discussion about the upcoming Jamboree at
Wheaton Labs.
Jen explains how window quilts and condensation harvesting help save
energy, then they move on to discuss Track 7 - Skills to Inherit Property. This is mostly
led by Mike and allows for
BB certification towards PEP1. Skills offered include building a bird house, carved tool handles, sharpening tools, making roundwood mallets, adobe bricks, building retaining walls, cutting trees, rock jacks, sealing a pond.
Track 8, homestead, is also part of the
SKIP PEP1 program but is less formal. Skills offered include making a hugelculture garden, insect hotels, snake and toad habitat,
hot water bath canning, fermenting, pickling, foraging
wild edibles, harvesting natural medicines, using rocket contraptions, public art, textiles and driving the excavator.
Track 9 is where you can hang out with the
boots and work with them, probably for a half or whole day. Jen and Josiah were attendees last year. You could end up working on absolutely anything.
Track 10 is about spontaneous innovation. Any of the instructors could join in on their day off. There are lots of materials and tools available, including a plasma cutter and an 1800F point-and-shoot thermometer.
Paul announces the launch of his new website -
wheaton-labs.com - which helps keep lab related stuff separate from permies.com and has full details of everything happening at the lab. They briefly discuss the character and credentials of some of the instructors and talk a little about the values that will be applied which make the event highly suitable for those with chemical sensitivities.
