Summary
Paul, Beau and others get together on a live session to discuss stuff.
The topic is based on a question someone asked Paul:
Suppose people from the future came along and said that if he kept working 80 hours/week for 3 years, it would make a big positive change in the world, but if he stopped working on that other people would take over and achieve ten times as much in 5 years. Would he stop, and what would he do instead?
Paul considered it from the opposite angle: it's 18 years since he quit his career in aerospace and started doing permie stuff full time. So what if the future-people showed up and told someone they could make a big change by working 80h/week for 18 years, how many would actually do that? Paul thought from 1000 people, half would turn it down. the other half might be willing but of the thousand only 1 might actually do the 18 years.
Beau feels that more likely only 100 would even agree to start and maybe only 1 in 10,000 would last the distance. Andres and Sean feel that it'd be more like 1 in 25000, while Julia doesn't want to put a number on it.
Esther mentions that if she and her partner were 20 years younger, they'd be on a plane and moving to the lab.
Paul now answers part 2 of the question, what would he do...
gardening! and more
gardening, and making ponds with the excavator. and pure
wood construction.
They talk a bit about the VA circus, which Paul hopes will one day make money.
Paul feels that at present if he stopped doing what he does, the whole place might fall apart.
Andres mentions that during COVID there was a discernible uptick in interest in permies stuff, but that now it's declining again: something is needed to maintain the interest.
Paul feels they need to do more videos showing gertitude and permie life and there's currently a lot of effort being put into making more, and better, videos to rejuvenate the YouTube channel
